Transporting a dishwasher

Disconnect water and electric

Firstly disconnect the water and power supply to the dishwasher; this can usually be done with shut off taps that are located under the sink. However we would recommend that you also shut off the water and power supply at the mains to be on the safe side.

Removing the connections

You can next disconnect the discharge line from the drainage pipes; this is located attached to the drainage pipe of the kitchen sink, which may require some tools.

The next job is to disconnect the electrical feed and the water supply. This will take some time as these are harder to reach. These components are usually located in the space between the dishwasher and the floor. These can be reached easily by removing the access panel in the bottom of the dishwasher, which can be removed by unscrewing it from the base. The water supply line will be located towards the left front of the machine. To disconnect this it will require a spanner or adjustable wrench to loosen the nut which connects it to the machine. You will also need to have a cloth to hand as some water may still be in the pipe and may require wiping up.

To remove the electrical connections locate the metal junction box and open this. When inside remove the wires by removing the nuts, remembering to keep the nuts to reattach the wires at its new location. This should mean the dishwasher is now fully disconnected and ready to move.

Moving the machine

Firstly the dishwasher has to be detached from the counter. To do this open the dishwasher door and look for the two screws which attach it to the counter, unscrew these. Next reduce the size of the adjustable legs; this will prevent any damage to the counter tops and the floor when being removed. To move the dishwasher you may need some assistance with one person carefully pulling the dishwasher out while the other feeds the drain line through any kitchen cabernet holes. Once the machine is removed give space where it was located a clean and remove any lose items inside the dishwasher and wrap accordingly ready for transport.

Transport

For transportation of the dishwasher it would be recommended to ensure the door and any loose wires are secured using strong tape or rope, therefore preventing damage during travel. You could also wrap the machine to reduce the chance of superficial damage.

When booking a large item delivery service through Shiply or indeed anywhere, you should try and gauge whether or not the driver will be working alone or be accompanied by a “driver’s mate”. If they do work alone, it is often expected that you, the customer can assist at pickup and drop-off locations (especially if the goods are particularly large and/or heavy).

Once in the van make sure the dishwasher is secured so as to prevent the dishwasher moving around in transit and becoming damaged.

Reattach

Once at the final location reattach the water inlet pipes, the electrical wiring, if in doubt please contact a professional, and the discharge line. Before setting the dishwasher in place reinstall the parts removed for transport and turn the water supply back on to check for any leaks. If there are any leaks you may wish to seek professional advice, if no leaks are found then you can set the machine in place.

Adjust the legs so the top of the machine is in contact with counter and secure the machine to the counter using screws. Now turn back on the power supply and with the dishwasher empty run a cycle to check the machine is in working order and then double check for any leaks.
