How to transport a chest of drawers

Getting a chest of drawers ready for the transportation is a pretty easy affair. However here are a few tips on how best to prepare and transport the chest safely.

Preparing the chest

Firstly remove the drawers from the chest, or you could tape the drawers to the chest. This will mean that they cannot open during any move and therefore reduce the risk of damage to both the chest of drawers itself or anything else around it.

Secondly cover any sharp edges on the chest with a soft material; again this will prevent damage to the edges and to any other items during moving. As with all large items we would recommend you get someone to help when moving a chest of drawers.

Transportation

When booking a large item delivery service through Shiply or indeed anywhere, you should try and gauge whether or not the driver will be working alone or be accompanied by a “driver’s mate”. If they do work alone, it is often expected that you, the customer can assist at pickup and drop-off locations (especially if the goods are particularly large and/or heavy).

When in the transport vehicle make sure the chest of drawers is secured in place. This will stop it moving around during the move and stopping any damage occurring to the chest itself or any other items in the van at the time. We would also recommend that nothing is placed on top of the chest during transit. If something is placed on top then it could move during the move and scratch the surface of the chest of drawers.
