Bookcases need a little bit of preparation before moving but with this simple guide it should make everything a little bit easier.
Preparing the bookcase
If possible you may want to remove the shelves from the bookcase. This will reduce some of the weight of the bookcase and make it easier to transport. However if this is not possible then don’t worry.
Next cover any sharp edges with soft material or blankets this will prevent damage occurring to these exposed edges when moving. Bookcases are usually pretty big and heavy so as with all large heavy items we would recommend getting another person to help with the lifting and moving, if you are moving it around the house ready for the move.
Transportation
When booking a large item delivery service through Shiply or indeed anywhere, you should try and gauge whether or not the driver will be working alone or be accompanied by a “driver’s mate”. If they do work alone, it is often expected that you, the customer can assist at pickup and drop-off locations (especially if the goods are particularly large and/or heavy).
As with most heavy items it is best to make sure the bookcase is secured within the van, preventing the bookcase from moving around during transport.
If the bookcase also has its shelves still attached then make sure nothing is placed on these shelves during transport, this is important as any items on these may move causing damage to the bookcase or possibly fall off and break.
