Beds are pretty easy to transport, but it can take some work to get the bed ready for the move. It really depends on what type of bed you have.
Getting the bed ready for the move
The first thing to do with any bed is take off the mattress. This will be transported separately from the actual bed frame.
The next step really depends on what type of bed frame you have. If you have a solid frame that can’t be dismantled then the bed can just be removed from the room and straight onto the moving van, if it has removable legs then remove these first. It is also advisable to get someone to help you do this due to the length and size of the frame.
If the bed frame can be taken apart using tools such as Allen keys or screwdrivers then it is probably best to do this, remember to store the removed screws, nuts and bolts safely so as the reassemble the bed at the final destination.
Once the frame is apart secure the pieces either in a suitable box or to each other using strong tape, this will mean less movement during transport and also reduces the space the bed will take up in the van.
Transportation
If you wish to protect the bed from superficial damage during transport then it is advisable to wrap any parts of the frame you wish to protect in a blanket or soft material.
When booking a large item delivery service through Shiply or indeed anywhere, you should try and gauge whether or not the driver will be working alone or be accompanied by a “driver’s mate”. If they do work alone, it is often expected that you, the customer can assist at pickup and drop-off locations (especially if the goods are particularly large and/or heavy).
At the other end
With a solid bed frame it’s as easy as just moving into place, making sure to attach any removed legs. With any dismantled bed frames reassemble with the original nuts, bolts and screws. If unsure about how to reassemble consult the manufacturer’s assembly guide.
