It is always recommended to plan your move ahead of time to ensure everything goes as smoothly as possible.
Four weeks before your moving date
Clear your house! Make a list of the items that you want to move and try to get rid of the rest by giving to friends/family, donating to charity or recycling.
Book your removal firm and sort out all necessary procedures relating to your home removal.
Make a list of the utility companies that you need to notify and contact them to let them know that you are moving.
If you are renting a house give notice to your landlord to avoid any extra rental that you need to pay after you move out.

Two weeks before your moving date
Begin packing items that you rarely use (which are a lot!) to reduce the amount of time you need for packing later on.
Make a list with all of the furniture and where it will go in your new home.
Contact the removal firm to confirm the moving time and date, locations, and update them if there is any change in terms of number of items, service needed or any details which have been agreed.
Notify your local authority that you are moving so they will stop sending council tax letters to you.
Contact your post office service to redirect your mails. They normally provide this with some charges, depending on how long you want to use the mail redirection service.
One week before your moving date
Pack all items that you want to move except for those you will need between now and the day you move.
Make a list of friends, family, relatives and companies, authorities that you want to notify about your move. See the list of people you should inform regarding your move.
Arrange final electricity and meter readings and pay any outstanding bills relating to your current home.
Cancel or redirect all deliveries such as papers, milk.
Put important and valuable items such as passports, jewellery, driving license and certificates in a safe place.
Obtain a new TV license or transfer existing TV license to your new home.
The day before your moving date
Finish all final packing and prepare a survival kit with essential items such as toilet paper, mugs, tea bags, spare light bulbs etc.
Check with your utility suppliers whether you have got electricity, gas, telephone, Internet, TV
Defrost the fridge/freezer and disconnect all appliances.
Clean around the house and leave a nice welcome card for the new owners together with some takeaway menus and instructions they may need.
Have a good sleep to prepare yourself for the moving day!
On the moving day
Call your home removal firm to make sure they will be on time.
Turn off electricity, gas and water supplies at the mains and disconnect all appliances.
Lock all windows, doors and any other entrances to the house.
After loading everything on delivery vehicles, have a quick look inside to make sure you do not leave anything behind.
Once you have moved in your new home
Move the boxes to the correct rooms/places they are supposed to be.
Unpack all the items from the most relevant, especially the survival kit.
Check and make sure electricity, water, gas, telephone, TV, Internet and other utilities are running.
