How to transport a lamp

Lamps are extremely easy to transport. This guide will help you pack the lamp properly and prevent the lamp from being damaged during the transportation.

Packing the lamp

The best way to transport a lamp would be to transport it in its original box. This will be the correct size for the lamp and therefore reduce the amount of material you will have to put in the box to cushion it during the move.

If you don’t have the original box then any box that will fit the lamp in will do.

The first thing to do is to wrap the lamp with a soft material or blanket, then line the box with soft material, you could use foam pieces but if not possible you could used scrunched up newspapers. These will secure the lamp in the box meaning it won’t move around within the box and minimising the chances of damage.

If the lamp has a shade then you could leave it on or take it off before wrapping the lamp either way should be fine. It is advisable to remove the bulb before transportation; you can pack this with the lamp but secure it in a small box of its own within the box containing the lamp.

Also make sure the bulb has adequate protection to avoid it being broken while moving.

Transportation

Transportation is easy, just make sure the box is secured with tape, label which way up the box goes and also label the box fragile if the lamp is delicate.

Whether you are hiring a man and van or transport the lamp yourself, on the van make sure that the lamp is positioned around other similar sized items and not behind any larger, heavier items that may move and damage the lamp during the move.
