Award for 'van man' businessA 25-year old Londoner, who defied the recession by creating a fast growing, profitable business in just 17 months, this week won a prestigious award for entrepreneurs.Robert Matthams was named Shell LiveWIRE Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2009 for his business Shiply.com, described as an 'ebay for white van men'. Matthams launched his venture in June 2008 after a delivery driver complained to him that he was wasting fuel returning to his depot with an empty truck, Shiply.com now has 5,500 transport companies on its books and claims to have saved users of the service £3.5m in costs. "I always had confidence in the strength of my business idea," Matthams said. |
